Firecracker Rice Krispie Treats

Make these festive Firecracker Rice Krispie Treats for your Fourth of July celebration. They are easy to make and a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients
  

For the Treats
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 package marshmallows (10 oz)
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
For Decoration
  • 1/2 cup white candy melts
  • 1/4 cup blue candy melts
  • 1/4 cup red candy melts
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (divided)
  • Sprinkles star-shaped sprinkles (optional)

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • Spatula

Method
 

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat. Add the Rice Krispies cereal and stir until well coated.
  4. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan using a greased spatula.
  5. Melt the white candy melts according to package directions. Stir in 1/2 tablespoon of vegetable oil until smooth. Drizzle over the Rice Krispie treats.
  6. Melt the blue and red candy melts separately according to package directions. Stir in the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of vegetable oil into each color until smooth.
  7. Drizzle the blue and red candy melts over the white chocolate in a random pattern to create a firecracker effect. Immediately sprinkle with star-shaped sprinkles, if desired.
  8. Let the treats set completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

For best results, use fresh marshmallows. You can also use different colored candy melts to create various firecracker designs.
