Ingredients

For the Churro Pastry
  • 150 ml Water
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp White Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Canola Oil
  • 60 grams All Purpose Flour
For the Cinnamon Sugar
  • 100 grams White Sugar
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Piping bag
  • Closed star piping tip
  • Baking tray
  • Parchment paper
  • Air fryer
  • bowl

Method

  1. Gather all your ingredients and equipment before you start. The churro dough comes together quickly.
  2. Add water, salt, 1 tbsp sugar, and 1 tbsp neutral oil to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat and stir to dissolve the sugar and salt.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the All Purpose Flour. Keep stirring until the flour is fully incorporated and forms a smooth ball. Let it cool for 10 minutes.
  4. Fit a thick piping bag with a closed star piping tip (like a 2D tip). Place the churro dough into the piping bag and twist the end to secure. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  5. Pipe 2-inch churro bites onto the parchment paper. Use scissors to trim the dough.
  6. Set your air fryer to 360F and preheat for 2 minutes.
  7. Add half of the churro bites to the air fryer basket and spray with cooking oil. Ensure there is space between the bites for air circulation.
  8. Fry for 10 minutes. Turn the bites over at the 5-minute mark to ensure even cooking. After turning, continue to fry for another 5 minutes until golden and crispy outside, and slightly soft inside.
  9. While the first batch is cooking, prepare the cinnamon sugar. In a bowl, mix together the white sugar and ground cinnamon. Stir well.
  10. Once the first batch of churro bites is ready, immediately toss them in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Set aside.
  11. Add the remaining churro bites to the air fryer and repeat the frying process.
  12. Serve warm with your favorite caramel sauce.

Notes

These churro bites are best served warm. You can make a simple caramel sauce by combining sweetened condensed milk, butter, and brown sugar over low heat until smooth.
